Week 5: Audio Stories

First Audio Story: http://storycorps.org/listen/stories/antero-garcia-and-roger-alvarez/

I chose the first story because of how the teacher pushed the student to succeed. Even though the college student dropped out, he still talked about how he appreciated being pushed. I feel the same way, I'm not going to drop out, but being pushed always motivates me to do a better job than just the average. A question I would of liked to ask the interviewer myself was "why would you wait until senior year?" He talks about how every year since ninth grade, he would walk into class and know he was going to fail. Feeling that for four years requires some persistence, and he was extremely close to graduating, so why not stick it out? and "would he go back if he could?" I don't know how successful his current life is, but if he could, would he go back and finish high school? These are just a few of the questions I wondered throughout the interview.

This story was heartbreaking to hear. The son was only eighteen when he had lost his life. This was more dramatic to me because I'm only a few months away from being eighteen, and to think that these could be my last few months as well. It just really makes you appreciate life, and to cherish it while you have it. Because any day could be your last. Another very emotional part is when the parents thought about committing suicide in the garage. Just the thought of losing their son created such a depressing mood, that they considered taking their own life. What stopped them though, was their other son who would of been left alone.
